In South Africa, I have a research chair, which deals with questions about acidic mine water in South Africa. I investigate the influence of mine water on groundwater and deal with hydrogeochemical questions.
In Finland, I held a Finnish Distinguished Professor Chair (FiDiPro) which dealt with questions on mine water. I investigated active and passive ways of remediating mines and carried out a tracer test at the abandoned Metsämonttu mine.
At the Cape Breton University in Canada, I had a research chair, with the aim of clarifying the open questions on the mine water in the Cape Breton Island coal mines. I investigated the hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical characteristics of the mines and carried out tracer tests in a passive ine water treatment system and a network of flooded underground coal mines.
I gave lectures and exercises on hydrogeology at the LMU in Munich. In addition, I dealt with mine water discharges in southern Bavaria and geothermal as well as classical hydrogeological questions.
My two independent lectures at the TU Bergakadmie Freiberg focused on tracer tests and hydrogeochemistry. I also gave lectures on behalf of Prof. Dr. habil. B. Merkel.
At the TU Clausthal, under the guidance of Dr. M. Schönfeld (†), I conducted tectonic exercises and guided by Prof. Dr. G. Reik (†) engineering geological exercises and laboratory courses. In addition, I guided geological seminars.
